Creating a Learning & Belonging Commons
The St. Paul Campus Center (SPCC) represents a transformative vision for the University of Minnesota's St. Paul Campus—a dynamic 95,681 square foot facility that will serve as the true heart of campus life. Rising on the site of the current Magrath Library, this centerpiece will unite students, faculty, and staff in a vibrant space designed to foster both academic excellence and meaningful social connections. The new facility brings together Student Unions & Activities and University Libraries to create an integrated hub that serves the diverse needs of the entire campus community.
More than just a building, the SPCC embodies the vitality and mission of the University of Minnesota while honoring the St. Paul Campus's unique identity—celebrating its distinguished academic research history, Native American heritage, and distinctive natural setting. Whether students need a quiet corner to dive into research, a lively space to grab coffee with friends, or a professional venue to host events, the SPCC will adapt to the needs of campus life. The building seamlessly weaves together modern library resources, diverse dining options, flexible meeting spaces, and inviting social areas—all connected by accessible pathways that make navigating between the SPCC, Ruttan Hall, and Learning & Environmental Science effortless. This thoughtful integration ensures the SPCC will not only meet today's needs but also support the evolving story of the St. Paul Campus for generations to come.
