Balance
The OSU Student Union Redevelopment honors the legacy of one of the largest unions in the world while creating a fresh contemporary update born out of the involvement and expectations of current OSU students. Architectural interventions are sensitively woven into the existing Georgian architectural fabric to create a revitalized OSU Union that fits this historic campus.
Elevation
Student involvement spaces are raised from a dark basement to a new light-filled Student Life Pavilion. The multi-story pavilion overlooks an informal outdoor Student Life Plaza, a flexible outdoor student programming space, which complements the formal gardens of the adjacent Library Mall.
Economic Engines
Conceived as the economic engines to support the larger student-centered union mission, key auxiliary functions are designed to operate efficiently for financial sustainability. A prominently located new bookstore serves as a key draw, while new dining areas are composed of a series of branded micro-restaurants. Internal seating, distinct branding and finishes, and lighting help to create unique hospitality environments while porous boundaries visually connect each venue to the larger composition.
